Week 46
Week 46
Day 316–322
5–11 January 2017
December was a weird month, to say the least, throwing up many challenges, both in finding gigs and personally. Christmas is a difficult time … the opulence and excessiveness around the "sell" of it freaks me out, highlighting, more than any other time of year or thing, the "have nots", the lonely and those that slip between the cracks … for whatever reason, leaving me with a sense of despair. It sucks. I actually wrote a short piece titled Ho Ho No about it which you can read here. That being said, it's great to have life back to something that resembles normality.
Week 46 of The Project delivered across the board and features an amazing array of bands with Tyrannamen at Shimmerlands for Shadow Electric nestled amidst the trees and the stunning architecture of Melbourne University and Gold Class playing beneath the stained glass ceiling of the main hall at NGV for Friday Nights at NGV. The pubs and dive bars did not disappoint either with an epic set from grindcore legends Shitwreck for Melt Ya Face Fest at The Brunswick Hotel, solo folk artist David Grimson at Whole Lotta Love, the amazing Gregory Page at The Old Bar, and Ashley Naylor and friends joining forces to play to a full house for David Bowie: 70 Years of Stardust at Cherry Bar. Passengers on the 86 were treated to a random acoustic guitar performance, while the final night of Week 46 found me all but stumbling into Samba Night at the Queen Victoria Night Market.
