A force to be reckoned with
Matt “Youngy” Young from King Parrot talks solid shows, demos and forces to be reckoned with.
ZD: King Parrot is going from strength to strength. Life must feel pretty surreal right now.
Youngy: Yes. We had an absolute blast at our hometown farewell show at the Evelyn in Melbourne on the weekend. It was awesome. The show sold out. It’s good that we have such a solid show of support here. We have been working our asses off for a long time, so I guess it still kind of feels the same for some reason. The shows are getting better though, and we are getting better as a band and that is what matters to me.

ZD: You mentioned going up north to record. Can you tell us about it?
Youngy: We did some demos and writing in Queensland over the Australian summer in an effort to get prepared for our next record. We are still chipping away at that. We hope to have a new record next year. We’ve been road-testing a few songs live and they are going down a treat.
ZD: What about your tour?
Youngy: We’re heading to North America this week to do 40 shows with Canadian metal legends Voivod and our friends from Michigan, Child Bite. We are really honoured to get the chance to tour with such an awesome and well-established band. Voivod has been a band for as long as I have been alive. They are a force to be reckoned with. Heading out with them is something I never would’ve thought possible as a youngster. We’ll also be playing at Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec, which has about 30,000 people attend, so we are chuffed for that opportunity too.
