Flinders Street

This photograph of the Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street intersection was taken during the big Melbourne 2020 lockdown using a broken Canon AE1. The camera (c1972) is one of my favourites. Some years ago, the shutter sync began to malfunction. The rig decides the capture as much as I do. Sometimes it fires perfectly, while at other times, the shutter sticks. Many years ago, I resolved to embrace the quirks. It is one of the best decisions I have made. The nuance of the AE1 reflects an overwhelming sense of fragmentation as I searched to connect with the strangeness of the world, finding solace in the beauty of film.
