Winter Days

Group Exhibition

Off the Kerb is celebrating the coming of winter with its annual Winter Days group exhibition. Shini Pararajasingham, gallery director, provides context to the exhibition theme, stating that “Winter signifies a time of hibernation, introversion, introspection, foraging, going within. [It] holds significance across cultures, often representing renewal and transformation … [It] symbolises life and death in some cultures, while in others, it’s a time of celebration, festivity, and spiritual renewal … In the history of art, Romanticism and Impressionism movements were well known for depicting this season. Romanticism used winter landscapes to evoke melancholy and a sense of rupture, while Impressionism experimented with light and colour, exploring the effects of snow and atmosphere. In Greek mythology, Demeter, the goddess of the Earth created winter. In Persian mythology the winter solstice symbolised birth and has been celebrated for thousands of years. In Welsh mythology, a battle between mythological lovers represented the contest between summer and winter.”

The exhibit features a diverse collection of artistic interpretations centered around the themes of the winter season. It showcases original works from a range of talented artists, including Adam Nyaningu Hill, Ada Grant, Adrian Jilich, Adriana Artmeier, Aleks Grilz, Alice Lamont, Alison Gray, Anne Kucera, Aude, Brendan Rowe, Ben Taylor, Christos Parstioglou, Christoper Allery, Chris Costa, Christopher Roberts, Ella Heckendorf, Eleanor Ballinger, Falconderis Marimón, Glen Downey, Holly Block, Jen Selmore, Kym Lee, Lisa Banh, Marco Penniacchia, Mahtous, Max Ballard, Meg Kolac, Megan Hall, Olivia Rae Razuki, Peta Tranquille, Victoria Nguyen, Yiying Lee, Yokiko Ueno, Zo Damage.
