Tread Lightly by Ruth Maddison
Zo Damage Presents
TREAD LIGHTLY
A photography exhibition by Ruth Maddison
Ruth Maddison is a self-taught photographic artist. Her professional work began in Melbourne in 1976. In 1997 she moved to Eden, NSW.
Her career spans more than 40 years working in wide-ranging areas of tutoring and lecturing, freelance, commissioned, self-initiated works for publications, special projects and exhibitions.
Maddison’s documentary work explores themes of relationships, communities and families, offering the viewer glimpses into the daily lives and rituals of ordinary citizens within their homes, work places and neighbourhoods. Moving to Eden further opened her practice to an investigation and inclusion of landscape image making.
She has been the recipient of several Arts Grants and Residencies throughout her career and been the winner of the Hobart City Art Prize for Photography, and Josephine Ulrick National Photography Prize for Portraiture.
Maddison continues to exhibit in group and solo exhibitions. Her work is widely collected by major institutions throughout Australia.
