Paradox (Exhibition)

SOLO EXHIBITION

Tautologies and contradictions are not pictures of reality. They do not represent any possible situations. For the former admit all possible situations, and the latter none.

— Wittgenstein 2010, 4.462

This exhibition invites you to explore the interplay of fear, trust and hope through a collection of immersive handcrafted photographic works, produced on paper. Each piece has been created using hand-dependent analogue photographic printmaking techniques, offering an alternative view of the dynamic relationship between body and mind, creativity, and everyday experiences of life. More than being a showcase, this exhibit encourages the viewer to engage with the real-time unfolding of thoughts, actions, emotions, and sensations, triggered by what is the transformative artistic expression of the work. Through the deconstruction and reconstruction of the photographic process, these works offer a paradoxical viewpoint of photography, challenging conventional notions of representational truth in the medium and unveiling a deeply subjective interpretation of the world. While some of these works have appeared in various group exhibitions (including the Bowness Photography Prize Finalist Exhibitions in 2022 and 2023), this event marks the first time they will be presented in their entirety as a photographic sculptural installation. Each artwork engages in a dialogue with the others, weaving together a rich tapestry of shared experiences. This project has been made possible by the generous support of C.R. Kennedy and Company and Ilford Australia.
