Interview

Zo Damage is a Melbourne-based photographer, printmaker, and recipient of the 2022 @library_vic Tate Adams Memorial Residency at Baldessin Studio. Zo's project "NoteWorthy" highlights live music culture's significance through film photography and printmaking.

"The images I'm working with look at the resilience and longevity of live music creative and performance culture and how constraints have limited that, especially in the pandemic."

As a State Library Fellow, Zo has the support of librarians whose fields of expertise in photography and Melbourne's live music history further enrich her project research and development.

"The State Library Fellowship provides access to incredible resources and opportunities to expand my fields of knowledge, art practice and creative networks."

She notes that the library staff includes musicians and artists, "they are not only caretakers of the historical archives, but also important contributors to the ongoing culture of art, literature and music".

Zo benefits from working alongside other artists at Baldessin Studio, saying that collectively "there are 100s of years of knowledge and experience".

"It's a very active creative space," she says, "there's a lot of energy, ideas and resources available to expand on and develop ideas."
