Echoing hall ways, the smell of dusty carpet, the clack of old typewriters, long waits and indifferent service.
What do you associate old town halls with? Bet it's not rock'n'roll. This year, Melbourne Music Week pulled all stops presenting an incredible show featuring My Disco and The Drones at Melbourne Town Hall, the restored giant organ accompanying The Drones during their set. It was brilliant.
Photographing shows like this are a challenge to say the least. How does one get everything in, the immensity, the atmosphere … and the sound? Obstacles become doors to altered perception and a new way of viewing things, pushing growth and creativity. I love these elements and working to gather it all in the one frame. This moment, photograph or not, is one that will stay with me for a very long time.
365 Day Project
On 25 February 2016 Zo committed to photographing a band or more every day for a full year with her 365 Day Project. As 2016 was a leap year Zo photographed each of the 366 days, successfully completing her unprecedented project on 24 February 2017.
Zo's book The Damage Report, released in August 2017, celebrates the successful completion of the Melbourne photographer’s unprecedented project, offering an insightful look into live music culture from the perspective of the scene itself.
